LCSW Supervision

Clinical supervision is a requirement for a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Clinical supervision is also required to be approved for advanced practice (LMSW-AP) or independent practice recognition (LMSW-IPR). The council describes supervision as "that which promotes professional growth".

1. 100 hours of supervision by a LCSW-S over a full 3000 hours of supervised clinical work.

2. Supervision must be completed in no less than 24 months and no more than 48 months. 

3. No less than 4 and no more than 10 supervision hours can be counted per month, or within a 30-day period. 

4. Supervisees must attend no fewer than 2 supervision sessions per month. 

5. Supervision can be completed either through in-person, online, group, or individual settings.

Effective supervision is a supportive, professional relationship that provides a welcoming environment to address work-related issues, encourage career development, and overall competency. When selecting a supervisor, you want to screen for compatibility, teaching styles, and unwavering commitment to your growth.

Per Texas Board guidelines, supervision groups have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 members. Group sessions are currently offered online only. Each group session is 2 hours long and is divided between exam prep, case consultation, and improving therapeutic techniques. Group sessions require engagement in various topic discussions, providing critical feedback on the application of therapeutic techniques, and addressing daily challenges presented by the clinical workplace. 

Group supervision is currently offered at $65/hour. 

Individual supervision can be requested for either 1 or 2 hours and can take place either in-person or online. Individual supervision will focus heavily on the application of therapeutic techniques and addressing daily challenges presented by the clinical workplace. As appropriate, individual supervision can also address specific exam-related concerns including test-taking strategies and content competency. There is an expectation that those who request individual supervision are working in an intensely clinical environment and will be able to engage in extensive client consultation. 

Individual supervision is currently offered at $80/hour.
